SOUTHERN Grampians Shire Council (SGSC) was excited to announce an upcoming information session for individuals interested in running in the Council elections this year.
This ‘Stand for Council’ session will run on August 19 from 5.30pm to 6.30pm at the Hamilton cinema with the aim of providing valuable insights and guidance for potential candidates.
This session will include a panel of speakers including former councillors, Corangamite current mayor, Kate Makin and Corangamite chief executive officer, David Rae.
SGSC mayor, David Robertson shared his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “Running for Council is the ultimate form of community service.
“It is an interesting, challenging, occasionally frustrating role that will test you throughout, but it is ultimately an incredibly rewarding undertaking,” he said.
“My experience in Council has been very impactful for me and has taught me so much.
“It is an honour to be selected to represent your friends, neighbours and fellow community members but it is also a responsibility not to be taken lightly.
“Elections can be trying, and the work can be difficult but there is a certain type of individual well suited to the role.
“I hope that we see many of these individuals put their hands up for this year’s election.”
The information session will cover the roles and responsibilities of a councillor, the election process, and the support available to candidates.
This will be an excellent opportunity to learn about the positive effect the Hamilton community can have in the town and how to effectively campaign for a position on the Council.
