MORE than a thousand dollars have been raised for Red Nose Day by the Short Street Takeaway and Cakes store.
Red Nose Day raises awareness and funds for research into Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
SIDS is the unexplained death of a baby, normally less than one year old and normally during sleep.
It is a tragedy that Short Street Takeaway and Cakes owner Karen Hodkinson and daughter Katherine Walker know only too well.
Thirteen years ago, Ms Walker lost her almost one-month-year-old daughter, Marissa Edwards, to SIDS.
Money raised on Red Nose Day not only goes to research but to also support family members of infants who have died.
A total of $1711 was raised by Portland residents who bought cupcakes at the Short Street business with Ms Hodkinson describing the fundraiser as a great success.
“I think the generosity of the Portland people have been amazing,” she said.
“(Money raised) will go to people who unfortunately will go through what we’ve gone through.”
A further $600 was raised in merchandise.
