Daffodil Day success

LAST Thursday saw the main street of Portland turn yellow for a good cause. The annual Daffodil Day fundraiser for the Cancer Council saw buckets of beautiful blooms for sale at the front of Woolworths.

Local Cancer Council branch member Lorraine Hiscock was one of the volunteers who helped make the day a great success and was very happy with the support that the community gave.

“We actually ran out of daffodils. It was very well-supported. A total of $1800 was made, which included the badges. We also had the Father’s Day raffle running at the same time,” Lorraine said. All funds raised will go directly to the Cancer Council for research.

“I’d like to say a big thank you to Cathy and Mark Radford, they picked a lot of the daffodils and thanks to Katrina Georgiadis as well.”

“We would also like to thank Debbie from Intimate Apparell who sold daffodils in the lead up and Barclay Street Store as well.

“A big thank you to all of our members too,” Lorraine said.

For anyone looking to get involved in the local branch, they meet every third Tuesday at the Portland Library between 11am and 12.

The next event for the local branch is a fun fashion parade on October 27, more information to come.

The father’s day raffle is still going, with tickets available from Pauline at Absolutely Fabulous or this Friday out the front of Woolworths.

For more information on any of the above contact Lorraine Hiscock on 0437 582 741.
