THE Australian Government was warned its 250 cent-clean kilogram floor price decision would mean decline in wool production, Mr John Silcock, of Gringegalgona, said yesterday. The Government’s decision not to support a higher level would place in jeopardy the jobs of thousands of wage-earners dependant on the industry, he said. It would also write millions of dollars off the value of stocks held by growers, processors and the Australian Wool Corporation. Mr. Silcock is newly-elected president of the Australian Wool and Meat Producer’s Federation and has played a key role in floor price negotiations. He revealed to the Spectator the Australian Wool Industry Conference Wool Policy Committee’s thinking behind the industry’s acceptance of the Government support offer.
