THE district’s Lutheran community, particularly, will remember Ron Hartwich who died in 2016.
Besides interests with Hamilton Aero Cub, CFA and more he also served as organist for Hamilton’s Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for more than 50 years.
During that time, he also played for other churches in the area when needed – Lutheran and non-Lutheran.
As the years passed Ron felt that to be complete the church organ needed a 16’ Pousane Stop in the pedals.
Using wood from a dead Cyprus tree on his property, plus Red Gum and old strainer posts, he constructed a complete rank of 16’ pipes for the Pousane Stop.
He passed away before the pipes could be installed; a pipe organ specialist later fitted them in 2022.
An organ recital is planned to pay tribute to Ron Hartwich and demonstrate the new rank of pipes in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
The guest soloist will be Gavin Fry, a former student at Tarrington Lutheran School and Good Shepherd College; during those years he had studied piano with Beth Tonissen and organ with Dorothy Causer.
The presentation will feature works from Bach, Boellmann, Langlaid and Widor and starts at 2.30pm on Sunday, November 10.
