IT’S that time of year again when the township of Cavendish is abuzz with activity in preparation for its annual Fleece and Flower Show on Friday, November 8.
There will be a variety of interests for all ages at the Cavendish Soldier Memorial Hall, the Cavendish Town Square Memorial Park and the Cavendish Kindergarten, from 3-7.30pm.
“It’s a great community social event,” Cavendish Fleece and Flower Show secretary, Kay Edwards said.
“We have a lot of community support.
“Everything is coming together nicely, and we hope the weather will be kind to us.
“It’s just a gathering of farmers, parents and grandparents of the Cavendish Primary School children and friends – it’s a wonderful family event.”
Farmers, community members, kinder and school children are very excited to exhibit their work and showcasing their talents through floral art, flowers, cookery, needlework, photography, jams and preserves and of course fleeces, all part of the contested events.
“Community members have provided some beautiful craft work,” Mrs Edwards said.
“The children receive prize money for their judged works which they in turn quickly spend on the stalls.”
A BBQ dinner will be provided by the Cavendish Lions Club, followed by the auction – an important highlight as this provides valuable funds for the ongoing maintenance of the Soldiers Memorial Hall.
Entry is by donation.
Auction items include a plum pudding and Christmas cake made by Lynne Arnold, a merino wool scarf hand spun, dyed and woven by Karen Watt, a water colour painting by Roger of an Eastern Spinebill, a tub of yoyo’s made by Peg Lewis, a soup maker plus lots of handyman tools for the workers.
On display there will also be a vintage hat exhibition from the years, 1940-60, an evening dress made out of recycled plastic bags, stalls, face painting, a Thermomix demonstration, books, Devonshire afternoon tea and many more activities.
All funds raised go to the Soldiers Memorial Hall for the ongoing maintenance.
The committee is pleased to advise that the supper room and toilets have just been painted.
“It’s a family friendly day out for young and old,” Mrs Edwards said.
