FINAL results are in for the ‘other’ major political race for the election of seven councillors to the Southern Grampians Shire Council.

As of yesterday morning, there were 12640 electors enrolled to vote with 10239 votes cast and 503 informal.

At time of print, Adam Campbell continued his lead as per initial results on the tally board with 1896 first preference votes, 43 ahead of second place (elected for a sixth term) is Dr Katrina Rainsford with 1853 votes, followed by first timer, Afton Barber in third place with 1195.

Also securing a seat on council for a sixth term is Albert Calvano in fourth place with 1010 votes, followed by Helen Henry for a second term with 1000, followed by Dr Jayne Manning with 964 then Dennis Heslin on 716.

Candidates who missed out were Tam Ramsay with 664, Lee-Ann Elmes with 395, James Leversha, 327 and Sharon Jackson with 219 votes.

Speaking from home, Mr Campbell said he was thrilled to have secured the confidence of ratepayers.

“I feel very humbled and I’m very excited to work with the team of councillors that have been elected,” he said.

“It’s exciting that four new candidates will be a part of it and I’m just really looking forward to getting to work and listening to the constituents of the Shire and making sure that we are being transparent and being there for the people.

“I feel very, very humbled.”

Successful candidates were declared at 3pm yesterday.

Cr Henry was equally thrilled to be re-elected for a second term.

“Considering I was second-last on the ballot and people had to turn the page and put a number one next to my name … thank you to the people who saw my values,” she said.

“We’ve just received a $5 million grant so that helps in determining where we’re headed and it’s those sorts of things that are at the forefront of my mind.

“We’ve got four new councillors, so there’ll be a lot of sharing so that there’s understanding of what’s required.”

In other results, the Glenelg Shire, a computer count gave provisional results with successful candidates likely to be declared in the coming days.

Cr Karen Stephens was again successful to be elected followed by Michael Carr in second place, John Pepper in third, Mike Noske in fourth, Robyn McDonald in fifth, Matt Jowett in sixth and Duane Angelino in seventh.

In the Moyne Shire, the VEC will publish results as they are finalised and will be declared by November 15.

Provisionally, Crs Jim Doukas, Karen Foster and Jordan Lockett were all re-elected followed by Lisa Ryan, Susan Taylor, Ross Lloyd and Myra Murrihy.

Further north in the West Wimmera Shire, elected were Helen Hobbs in top position followed by Tim Meyer, Jodie Pretlove, Richard Hicks and Tom Houlihan.
