BAIMBRIDGE College have been excited to announce their school captains, Issy Dahl and Ontaj Gould and school leaders, Keely Beaton and Austin Donoghue for 2025.
Year 11 students who wished to apply for leadership roles for next year were encouraged to submit an application, undertake interviews with teachers, and if successful were given the opportunity to present a speech to their peers before the leaders were announced at assembly.
The 2025 school captains, Issy and Ontaj both joined Baimbridge College in Year 7, and said they were incredibly grateful and excited to be chosen to represent the school.
“I’m looking forward to creating a really good sense of friendliness and community around the school, and making connection between peers throughout year levels,” Issy said.
“(Also) improving my confidence and skills of leadership and setting an expectation of the leadership roles that we are honoured to have.”
“I’m looking forward to stepping up to the role as school captain and being a positive role model for my peers, setting the standard and displaying the school values; pride, courage and respect,” Ontaj said.
“Some of my goals would be reflecting on (the role) at the end of the year knowing I did it right and I was happy with how I did.”
Approaching their final year of high school, Ontaj plans to head straight into the workforce in the trades after finishing his Year 12 studies, while Issy plans to take a gap year overseas after school as an au pair before heading to university to study primary school teaching.
The captains have already demonstrated great pride in their school, peers and responsibilities, and believe that being a good leader is all about connecting with others and being approachable.
“Just being someone that’s easy to talk to, being respectful, having good manners and good morals,” Ontaj said.
“A lot of communication is very important, as well as friendliness and just having a really good, positive vibe about yourself,” Issy added.
“It’s also about putting yourself forward, using your initiative and being involved in everything.”
