PORTLAND North Primary School is hosting its 20th annual Mini-Fete on Thursday combined with its fundraising Colour Run.
Every year the school holds the fete to subsidise their Grade five and six camp.
Senior students have the responsibility of preparing fun activities and hosting the Mini-Fete, which is something they look forward to from prep.
In their subgroups, the students are each responsible for a stall of their choice.
“They're all pretty much activities-based, so it's all things for our junior kids and the school community to get involved in,” senior teacher Erin Falcone said.
“We've got a water gun target range; a teacher and student sponge throw where they get to throw lovely soapy sponges at their favourite teachers.
“There's a stall they can make crafts at, and then a stall where they can buy handmade crafts … there’s plants, which is through our hands-on learning program.
“There are some trivia-based games, so we've got a ‘who's that baby’ competition where they go in for a prize, a ‘guess the balloons in the car’, and ‘guess the lollies in the jar’.
“Then just some other arcade-type games, kick the ball in the bucket, balloon darts, lucky ducks.
“We really pushed the kids to think of things to do this year to keep the engagement and the entertainment levels throughout the whole day.
“It's all from our school community or programs at our school. We don't have any external stalls coming in.”
This year the Mini-Fete falls on the same day as their annual fundraising Colour Run, combined with a Devonshire tea and raffle with prizes donated from local businesses, organised by the school’s Parent Club.
Each student is registered with School Fun Run and collects sponsors leading up to the event.
This is the third year the Colour Run has been raising funds for a $40,000 playground to be installed in the school’s fairy garden.
Parents, friends, all students and the outer community are invited to attend the Mini-Fete held at the school from 11am to 2pm.
