Grange Burn bridge upgrade

THE Australian and Victorian Governments will be jointly funding the strengthening of the Grange Burn bridge on the Henty Highway, near Hamilton, to improve network efficiency and safety for all road users.

The project is part of an investment into the Green Triangle region and works will include water main works, earthworks, strengthening the bridge and placing a new surface, new barriers on the bridge and pedestrian path, rebuilding the road on both bridge approaches and the pedestrian footpath.

These works will allow higher mass vehicles to use the bridge and address structural deficiencies.

Dates and timeframes of these works are dependent on a range of factors, including favourable weather and site conditions.

Disruptions

There will be changes in traffic conditions on the Henty Highway while these works are underway.

Crews will be on site from Monday to Friday, between 7am and 6pm, with the possibility of some weekend work and nightworks.

There will be one lane open to traffic and a 40 kilometre per hour speed limit in place to keep drivers and workers safe.

Traffic controllers will be on-site while works are underway, and temporary traffic lights will manage traffic at other times.

Traffic flow on the Henty Highway will be maintained at all times.

Oversize vehicles

Oversize vehicles more than 3.5 metres wide will be detoured, with signage in place to direct traffic.

These vehicles can detour via Henty Highway, Wedge Street and Digby Road or Henty Highway, South Boundary Road, Mt Napier Road, Petschels Lane and Hamilton Highway.

Access

While access to residential properties and businesses will be retained, there will be periods of disruption to local roads and traffic flow.

The contractor will contact impacted residents directly should access be disrupted.

Background

The Green Triangle region is a key freight route linking south-western Victoria, the Port of Portland, and the South Australian border.

The works will reinforce the structure to ensure strength and durability and to facilitate heavy vehicle movements, including superloads.
