Christmas appeal spreading cheer

THE Hamilton Uniting Church (HUC) are once again hoping to ramp up grocery donations towards their annual Christmas Appeal to help less fortunate families and individuals in the region.

Donations may include foods such as breakfast cereals, tinned fruit, meal kits, long life milk, muesli bars, cordial (no soft drinks) and Christmas fare such as shortbread, Christmas candy and marshmallows.

The HUC will be receiving donations which can be delivered to the church between 9am and 2pm weekdays from November till Sunday, December 8.

Any donations of gifts or toys are to be directed to the St Vincent De Paul organisation in Hamilton.

Food program coordinator, Luke McConchie said the program (which has run for about 18 years) had gained many new volunteers both young and old this year.

These volunteers pack and deliver 110 boxes of food per week (one box per family) benefiting many people in the community and in surrounding towns such as Merino, Macarthur and Dunkeld.

“We’re a community with lots of volunteers and it’s great to be able to give back and keep this initiative running,” Mr McConchie said.
