PROFESSIONALS Real Estate Hamilton are aiming to spread cheer to families in need this Christmas, as they call for more donations for their annual sock drive.
This is the third year in a row the team are collecting socks, which will be distributed to local families through the Uniting Church.
Professionals Real Estate Hamilton administration assistant, Toni Packham said people had already donated around 210 pairs of socks but were hoping to receive more to exceed last year’s efforts.
“We need around 100 more pairs to match it, but we're aiming to do much better than just match it,” she said.
“The donations are mostly adult size, but in those we have a pretty fair distribution between men’s/ladies/unisex, and casual/sports/work socks.
“We only have a few pairs each in children and infant sizes and could definitely do with more of those, particularly for school aged children.”
Ms Packham said the sock drive was an inexpensive way to provide locals in need with essentials this festive season.
“It's something we can do to help support the community, and it's something that is overlooked that can seem small but can make a huge difference to those who need it,” she said.
“I think it's easy to underestimate how significant such a small detail can be.
“There's often focus on providing food and clothing for those who may be struggling, but surprisingly, a lot of them go without socks!
“When the budget it tight, it's the small comforts that sometimes have to give.”
“I couldn't imagine having to go to work or school without socks, and it's that 'cost of a cup of coffee' scenario - something that can seem insignificant to you may make a huge difference to someone else.
“If you're in a position to give, Christmas is definitely the time to do it!”
Locals can donate a new pair of socks in any size to the Professionals Real Estate office on Brown Street before Monday, December 20.
The socks will be dropped off to the Uniting Church on Tuesday, December 21, where they will then be given to families in need.
