THE Federal budget delivered on Tuesday by treasurer, Josh Frydenberg, included a number of agricultural areas earmarked for funding allocation.
The Australian Government announced over $600 million “to back in our farmers, fishers and foresters” and claimed it would help agricultural production reach a goal of $100 billion by 2030.
The Budget included $101.7 million for biosecurity and traceability “to protect Australia's reputation for safe and quality produce in the face of rising global pest and disease threats.”
There was an additional $27.3 million announced to help farmers diversify their income streams by protecting biodiversity habitat on marginal farming land, and $20.1 million to strengthen on-farm biosecurity through livestock traceability.
$27.4 million was allocated for agricultural shows and support of large trade events that promote agribusiness.
The Government also announced $139.9 million to make water delivery in the Murray-Darling Basin more reliable.
The Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) program would also deliver $1,985,254 to Southern Grampians Shire, $2,717,903 to Moyne Shire, and $2,717,903 to Glenelg Shire.
