OVER the next month, Agriculture Victoria will be holding a series of free webinars to help farmers improve their farm’s biosecurity.
The ‘Biosecurity How-to’ webinar series will guide participants through some practical approaches that will help to minimise biosecurity threats on their farms.
Strategies such as creating a record keeping system and an animal health plan, developing a farm map, and building a farm-specific biosecurity plan, are all ways to be aware and prevent biosecurity breeches.
Hosted by the BestWool/BestLamb and BetterBeef networks, each webinar will feature industry specialists who will lead the one-hour ‘How-to’ presentations.
Agriculture Victoria Farm Networks program manager, Kirstie Anderson, said the webinars would provide farmers with an opportunity to better understand how to put their farm biosecurity plans into action.
“While the focus of recent workshops and webinars has been on farm biosecurity planning, these webinars will drill down into how farmers can put some of the aspects of their plan into action,” she said.
Starting yesterday and running from 7.30-8.30pm each Wednesday evening, the webinars will cover:
How to create a record keeping system that can be easily accessed and shared
How to create an animal health plan that details what treatments are needed and when
How to create a farm map that shows your biosecurity risk areas
How to create and implement an on-farm biosecurity plan
“Biosecurity is everyone’s responsibility and implementing good practices on your property and ensuring visitors and employees follow those practices is key to preventing serious consequences for our animals, trade, and economy,” Ms Anderson said.
“These webinars will show livestock managers how to keep good records and have a farm map – these tools are vital to Emergency Animal Disease preparedness.”
