Young dairy farmers put their brains trust to work at Noorat

SOUTH-WEST dairy farmers put their thinking caps on and their general knowledge to the test at the WestVic Dairy Young Dairy Network (YDN) Trivia Night on Friday, September 1.

The Noorat football rooms were buzzing with over 130 quiz participants, with many return attendees from last year’s event at Timboon.

Young farmers and service providers were grouped into tables of 7-10 people to compete against each other across 10 rounds of 10 questions.

Local radio identity, Garry Ross donated his time as quizmaster entertaining the crowd throughout the night.

Questions ranged from ‘guess this song’ to curly anatomy brain teasers, with a few farming questions thrown in for good measure.

The event was proudly sponsored by ‘Proud to be a Dairy Farmer’ which allowed for all proceeds to be donated to charity.

These proceeds were split between BlazeAid and Need for Feed, two very deserving charities who have supported our region over the years of drought and fire.

Both charities have been busy assisting fellow farmers in NSW to recover from last year’s devastating floods and will no doubt put the money raised to good use.

The support from local businesses across the region was significant with a great range of donated prizes won by upwards of 40 attendees on the night.

Everything from farm equipment, vouchers, beanies, and even day spa vouchers were on offer.

The competition for first place was fierce, with the top spot battled out between the Terang Mortlake Apiam Vets and the Timboon Vet Group.

This year there were less animal anatomy questions, but the vets showed their versatility and were still in first and second place!

The Timboon Vet Group again took the glory of the top prize for the third year running.

Whilst a few of the other tables showed great promise earlier in the evening, perhaps too many visits to the bar created a distraction along the way!

All in all, a great night was had by many young farmers and service providers alike.

To see so much talent, enthusiasm, and passion for the dairy industry in one room was a wonderful experience.

We look forward to an even bigger event next year and seeing if the Timboon Vet Group can make it four in a row!
