32,000 lambs were yarded by the Hamilton agents at Wednesday’s market.
Overall the quality was very good. There was a tail with the lighter and immature lambs that displayed a little more dryness than the previous market. A full field of processors were present, however not all were active. Both supermarket chains were represented. Feeder and restocker competition were very evident throughout the market and as a result the market was stronger over most categories.
Lighter lambs gained $10 to $15 per head with lambs to the trade 18 to 22kg stronger by $5 to $10p/hd in places and the medium to heavyweight lambs to the trade up by $5p/hd.
New season lambs sold to $178p/hd with most of the new season lambs realising between 430c and 525c/kg. Light 12 to 16kg new season lambs sold from $37 to $78p/hd with the trade lambs 18 to 22kg selling from $70 to $135p/hd with the 22 to 26kg selling from $96 to $161p/hd. Very good shorn trade lambs 18 to 26kg sold to $149p/hd most realising between 380c to 460c/kg cwt. Hoggets topped at $74p/hd.
