MORTLAKE agents yarded 1980 cattle on Monday representing a number similar to the previous week.

Despite dry conditions, the offering was of excellent quality with more of a secondary tail.

The majority of the grown cattle were manufacturing types and there was a good mix of both beef and dairy cows.

Not all the regular processor buyers were active, however there was strong feeder and restocker support in the market.

Grown cattle improved 10c to 15c/kg with manufacturing steers fully firm.

Trade cattle gained 15c to 20c/kg.

Beef cows were dearer by 5c to 10c/kg and more so for the heavier types with the dairy cows softer in places.

Bulls slipped 15c/kg.

The very good vealers of offer sold from 145c to 250c/kg with the trade steers and heifers selling from 200c to 230c/kg.

Grown cattle topped at 235c/kg.

Manufacturing steers sold from 130c to 200c/kg.

Heavy beef cows were making between 175c and 198c/kg with the medium weights from 145c to 172c/kg.

Dairy cows generally sold from 133c to 172c/kg with grown beef bulls to 230c/kg.
