HAMILTON agents yarded 48,000 lambs on Wednesday representing an increase of some 16,000 head.

Overall, the quality was very good with weight and freshness on offer.

There was a tail in the yarding represented by immature lambs.

A full field of buyers were on hand, including supermarkets, however, not all operated at capacity.

Across the market there was good competition from restockers and feeder operators.

The market was stronger over most categories being up $5 to $10 per head.

New season lambs topped at $181p/hd with most of the new season lambs to the trade realising between 460 and 540c/kg cwt.

Light 12 to 16kg new season lambs sold from $40 to $88p/hd to the trade; 18 to 22kg sold between $72 and $135 with the 22 to 26kg trade weights from $114 to $142p/hd.

Very good shorn trade lambs 18 to 26kg realised an average of 440c/kg cwt selling to $109p/hd.

Hoggets topped at $58p/hd.
