Numbers increase at strong cattle market

A TOTAL of 2039 cattle were yarded at Mortlake on Monday, representing an increase of over 800 head. It was a good quality yarding overall. The grown cattle and bullocks carried good weight and additional dairy bred manufacturing type steers were available. A large offering of cows was on offer to all regular processors who were active in a strong market that comprised 305 grown cattle, 850 trade, 860 cows and 34 grown bulls. 

Grown cattle and manufacturing types gained 30 to 40c/kg. The top end of the trade types gained 25c/kg, however once away from the best the market remained firm to slightly dearer. Cows gained 25 to 35c/kg over most weights and categories with bulls dearer by 30c/kg. The good offering of vealers and made from 252c to 298c/kg. Trade steers and heifers sold between 230 and 270c/kg. Grown cattle topped at 305c/kg with the manufacturing types selling up to 270c/kg.
