Breeding cattle for the future

MANEROO Farms have been breeding Angus cattle since its inception in 1994. The focus has always been an efficient, functional fertile herd while understanding future trends from the consumer.

Good eating quality is important but having the maternal traits to ensure that we, the producer, are profitable into the future.

Maneroo cattle are well known for a moderate frame, low birthweight, high fertility and high carcase traits.

We use AI sires over the majority of heifers and cows.

This brings leading outside genetics into the herd and allows us to provide diversity of bloodlines. The herd is run under high stocking conditions and are culled if they are unable to perform under these conditions.

We run a grass-fed operation which means grain supplementation is not required. Final heifer selection is made after they have calved unassisted as a two-year-old.   We measure at many times along the animal’s lifetime and collect genomic data on a portion of our herd, and this is expanding as the years progress.

Temperament is assessed throughout their yearling growth, and they are culled if unsuitable as temperamental cattle are unsuitable for the safety of all livestock operators.

We have been performance recording since 1996 and this tool has also contributed to the selection process.

Structure is important to us in a 1000mm rainfall; any foot faults show up in this environment that may not show up in areas that pare the feet naturally.  Dick Whale structurally assesses our bulls and heifers annually to get an independent eye to keep us honest.  Bulls are also semen tested to make sure they get calves on the ground. All sale bulls have passed a semen test prior to sale.

We have had an alliance with Rangers Valley feedlot for over twenty years, which tells us that our stock satisfies our customers.  This also allows us to get carcase feedback on all our steers to ensure we are able to continuously improve.

Maneroo offers bulls for sale on farm, lowering the cost directly to you, the commercial cattle producer.

From time to time, we have breeding cows and heifers for sale.
