THERE was a slight decrease in numbers at Mortlake on Monday with a total of 910 head offered.
Trade cattle numbers were similar to last week and displayed slightly better quality overall whilst cow numbers were back with a good mix of beef and dairy types.
Bullock numbers increased with less manufacturing types on offer.
Most of the regular operators were present, however, not all were active with feeder interest again subdued and little store competition on 320 grown cattle, 380 trade types, 190 cows and 28 grown bulls.
The market showed resilience for cows with grown cattle back by 10c to 20c/kg.
Trade cattle lost 20c to 30c/kg.
On a brighter note, cows were stronger by 10c to 15c/kg.
Trade steers and heifers sold from 175c to 245c/kg and grown cattle topped at 258c/kg.
Manufacturing steers sold from 130c to 210c/kg.
Good beef cows sold from 145c to 188c/kg with the medium weights between 130c and 145c/kg whilst dairy cows sold generally from 145c to 175c/kg with grown beef bulls to 205c/kg and dairy bulls to 170c/kg.
