THERE were nearly 5000 cattle yarded at Mortlake on Thursday, taking the month’s total store cattle to just short of 7000 head - overall it was another very good quality yarding of cattle presented.

Agents last week drew for similar numbers to that of a fortnight before with 235 yarded, which consisted of 101 cows, 125 trade and 9 bulls.

NUMBERS almost halved back to 5850 lambs at Hamilton last week.

The first prime market in March on Friday last week saw numbers increased slightly this week, with 256 put forward, including 208 cows, 27 trade and 21 bulls.

ADDITIONAL restocker competition helped some young cattle sales lift up to 30c/kg and suitable cows hold firm. Most young cattle averaged unchanged to slightly dearer as did grown steers. THERE was another excellent offering of sheep of all weights and grades saw 11,718 being offered at Hamilton this week.
