Speedway season ends prematurely

THE Western Speedway season has ended prematurely with Saturday’s event cancelled due to low car counts.

It was set to be the final meet of the season and Hamilton Speedway Drivers Incorporated president, Dehne Sparrow said it was not the ideal way to end a tough season.

“It is very disappointing and I am gutted we have to finish the season like this, but it is in the best interests of the club to do this,” he said.

“It costs us a lot of money to open the gates up.

“We had crash and bash organised and there was a bit of a miscommunication from both parties; with COVID-19, they are racing locally in their area which left us a class down and then we had production sedans scheduled, but coming off the state title there have been a few damaged cars.”
