COMMUNITY sport in regional communities has once again been crushed by a sudden Victorian Government coronavirus lockdown.

On Friday evening the Victorian Government issued a surprise sweeping directive to all community sports organisations in regional Victoria instructing them to cancel all planned events due to take place over the weekend.

The directive came after Shepparton, located 185 kilometres north of Melbourne and 390 kilometres northeast of Hamilton, uncovered COVID-19 cases on Friday.

At the time, regional Victoria and metropolitan Melbourne operated under separate COVID-19 restrictions.
