A grade season pushes on despite COVID uncertainty

THE Hamilton and District Cricket Association A grade season continues with round 13 games set to go ahead, despite the COVID outbreak around the region.

Pigeon Ponds v College

A TOP two clash highlights the round with College travelling north to take on Ponds at Pigeon Ponds Recreation Reserve.

Both teams will be eyeing off big scores on the synthetic surface, with just six points separating both teams going into the clash.

The home team have an even spread of contributors with bat and ball, while College will be hoping skipper, Charles Murrie, and Heath Schmidt can anchor the innings and generate momentum early in the contest.

The two teams go into the clash with strong line-ups, which sets up an enthralling contest with the winner set to finish the round on top of the ladder.

St Andrew’s v Macarthur

THE Drews will have home ground advantage for its clash against Macarthur, as both teams face-off at Clem Young Oval this afternoon.

The visitors are coming off a comfortable win against Casterton District last weekend, but the Drews will be no pushover.

St Andrew’s will be desperate to put together a 90-over performance and grab the points, as the team sits in sixth spot and a win is a must if it is to keep within striking distance of the top four.

Kyall Timms showed his batting prowess last week and the number four batsman will be a key wicket for the home side, while Ollie Wortley and Russell Elton will be hoping the pitch offers some turn for the Macarthur and St Andrew’s spinners respectively.

A Macarthur win would see the visitors jump into second spot, adding to the motivation for the Demons today.

Grampians v Casterton District

THE Maroons will travel to Dunkeld Turf in the hopes of notching up a second win of the season.

Grampians sit just outside the top four and will go into the clash as favourite, but the Maroons will need to be at their best,

Both sides are missing some key players with Rick Killey still not back amongst the Casterton District team, while Carl Joyce hasn’t been named for the Pumas.

The home side will take a young side into the contest though with Eddie McShane, Lachlan Phillips and Brodie Phillips all set to take to the field this afternoon.

Early wickets will be important for both sides, as they try to restrict runs on the expansive ground.

It shapes up to be an intriguing contest with the Maroons running out of time to put together some wins to keep their finals hopes alive.
