Surry tennis returns to regular season

WITH the Surry District Tennis Association championships done and dusted for another year, the focus now returns to the regular summer season.

Competition last weekend was set for Sunday due to the Tyrendarra Show, and with just three rounds remaining before finals it is really getting to the business end.

So far the A grade season has panned out exactly how the ladder sits, with not an upset in sight.

Top team Lawn Purple remains undefeated, second-placed Tyrendarra’s only losses have been to Purple, while third-placed Lawn Blue has beaten bottom side Heywood three times but is yet to topple the top two teams.

Could tomorrow’s 11th round be the day where all that changes?

Heywood will be itching to get that first win on the board and on Sunday will host Tyrendarra.

Matches between the two sides this season have seen the Darras win five sets to one, four sets to two, and six sets to nil.

If Heywood’s Bec Siddall and Jason Edwards can play at their best, then just maybe they can grab the win, but it is never easy going against the likes of Dan Polkinghorne and Amy Orchard.

The clash of the two Lawn sides will see Purple start a strong favourite with Kerry-Ann O’Keefe and Leah Sandeman in great touch and strong depth in the men’s.

Blue grabbed two sets from Purple last time, so if they play at their best they could well produce the upset they want.
