Rae claims round four of Formula 500 Stampede Series

THE Southern 500 Speedway has wrapped up another season with a full night of racing on Saturday.

The highlight of the night came with the fourth round of the Formula 500 Stampede Series with 29 drivers taking on two heats each plus finals.

Portland’s Angus Hollis missed out on a place in the A main final, having to be content with an eighth placing in the B main.

Hollis had earlier finished seventh in heat 2B, but did not get to the start line for heat 1B.

Series leader Jordan Rae took the chequered flag in the A main final, just ahead of Dylan Willsher in second and Brooke Buckingham in third.

A relatively clean race meant 15 of the 20 drivers were able to get to the finish line in the 25-lap A main final.

Other classes

Neville Grange took out the super rods 20-lap final, after starting second on the grid.

Grange took the lead after lap one and was never headed, whereas Grant Stansfield went from first to fourth after encountering problems on lap one and was eventually out of the race by lap 11.

Hamilton’s Dane Court finished second and Jacob Pitcher third.

Portland’s Steve Aldridge led from start to finish in the production sedans 12-lap final, whereas Hamilton’s Benny Barker worked his way through the field from sixth to second, with Shaun Queale third.

Aldridge had secured poll position for the final after running third, first and first in the three heats.

In the junior sedans top stars section the three heats produced three different winners with Jayden Bryant taking out heat one,

Will Shore heat two and Portland member, Tanner Barclay, heat three.

Shore started second on the grid for the final and managed to get ahead of Bryant on the first lap and that’s where he stayed.

Bryant’s night came to an end on lap five, allowing Linken Paterson to move into second, while Barclay claimed third in the 10-lap final.

Four drivers contested the junior sedans new stars class with three heats and a final, with Jake Bradley a step ahead of the others with victory in all four races.
