Barker brilliance at Stawell

HAMILTON harness racing driver, Jackie Barker, had a day to remember with four winners at Stawell on Monday.

The day started after she guided Jack Of The Green to victory in the first for trainer, Jim Barker, going into the race as third favourite.

The local reinswoman didn’t have to wait long for more success, taking to the track in race three onboard pre-race favourite, Elli Joh for Julie Brimacombe.

Race 5 was next on the schedule for Barker with the success put on pause after Brimacombe’s Hook Eye Joh finished fifth out of six.

The very next race Barker got back to her winning ways, driving She Will Wantano to victory for Heywood’s Bec East,

Barker again did the job for Brimacombe in the last race of the day, taking Jackierabbit to victory in the 1785m race nine.

It was the most successful days for the 25-year-old, who went into the day hopeful of having some success.

“I thought I’d have a pretty good day, obviously you are happy if you have one winner, but I thought I had a few chances,” she said.

“It is the first time I had had four winners, I had had a few trebles before, so this was my best.

Driving Jack Of The Green to the first win of the day was the ideal start to Barker’s schedule.

“He is my sister’s horse,” she said.

“He has been racing really well, won up at Birchip and was going into the race with pretty good form.

“It is always a big thrill when you can drive a win for the family.”

Barker’s success also led to Brimacombe’s first training double, something the local said made the day even more special.

“I always drive for them, they are big supporters,” she said.

“It was actually Julie’s first training double, which was awesome.”

It comes just a day after Barker won the Charlton Pacing Cup on Sunday on board Demon Delight.

“That was huge, I was super excited to win that race and he was trained by Emma Stewart,” Barker said.

“Those races are the main ones on the day and they’re the ones you aim to win, so I was thrilled to win that and claim another Group 3 victory.

“You definitely need a bit of luck, but I have got a bit more confidence as well which I think has helped.”

Barker hasn’t spent much time out of the sulky in recent days, travelling to Bendigo on Thursday before going to Echuca on Friday night searching for another cup win for Demon Delight, before racing in Melton today.

She will return to a familiar track on Monday, hoping for more wins.

“Hopefully I can have another successful day at Hamilton on Monday,” she said.
