Rifle club shooting success leads to second straight title

HAMILTON Rifle Club was successful in winning the Corangamite F Class Shield for the second time in a row on Saturday.

The competition team shoot was held on the Warrnambool Rifle Range and shot over 300, 500 and 600 yards.

The local club entered a five-person team comprising Grant Hornell, Will Kelly, Rob Kelly, Arnold Kelly and Danny Sandford.

The competition is a coached event with the top four scores counting at the event.

The club’s coaches were Hornell and Sandford with the team enjoying a successful outing.

Hamilton was successful in winning the event, finishing four points ahead of Geelong.

Saturday’s win was the second consecutive win for the Hamilton team, as they retain possession of the shield for another 12 months.

Hamilton recorded 687-36, to finish ahead of Geelong 683-47, Colac Yellow 677-37, Werribee 661-20 and Colac Blue 633-24.

Hamilton’ Will Kelly shot well to record the second highest individual score.

Hornell, Sandford and Bill Boyack will be competing in the state championships in Bendigo from April 6-10.

Boyack will also represent Victoria as a member of the state team against teams from around Australia in the National Teams championship on April 4 and 5.

The club will continue its weekly events with the range open on Saturdays from 1pm.
