THE Hamilton and Alexandra College (THAC) has continued its dominance of Glenelg District sports, collecting the girls, boys and aggregate shields at the athletics event at Casterton’s Island Park on Friday.
It comes as THAC secured the Glenelg District swimming, athletics and cross country titles in 2021 and have already collected the first two this year, continuing the college’s sporting prestige.
THAC also had four age group champions across the day.
Grace Potter topped the 12-13 female section with 44 points, while Jack Sobey claimed the 14-year-old male honour with 39 points.
Maddie Green collected the 18-20 female honour, while Ollie Wortley topped the 18-20 male rankings.
THAC claimed the aggregate honour with 975 points ahead of Monivae 927 points and Baimbridge College in third with 658.
THAC director of sport and outdoor education programmes, Leigh Alexander said it was another strong day for the college’s young athletes.
“We had a successful day, we managed to win the three big shields, girls, boys and the overall
“It was a fantastic day once again hosted by Casterton.”
Alexander said despite some standout performances, every athlete contributed to the day and helping claim victory and the three shields.
“We had Grace Potter, Jack Sobey and Maddie Green and Ollie Wortley all win their age groups,” he said.
“But everyone contributed, it all adds up no matter how many events they were in and where they finished, it was a big team effort.”
The college offered training sessions ahead of Friday’s events with many of the athletes taking up the chance to fine tune their techniques before the big day.
“We had training sessions with Rohan Garfoot in the lead-up and the students who took that opportunities got the results,” Alexander said.
“Last year we were able to win the triple crown with athletics, swimming and cross country and we are on our way to repeating that again this year.”
Good Shepherd College was ranked the best performing school using the STAR handicap system, ahead of Casterton Secondary College and THAC.
Other local age group champions included Baimbridge College’s Isaac Lehmann (72 points) who collected the 12-13 male age championship, while Monivae’s Jessica Mibus (39 points) topped the 14-year-old female ranks and Sharnee Hutchison (61 points) was the 15-year-old female winner.
Good Shepherd College’s Thomas Linke (32 points) won the 16-year-old male age championship and Jess Rentsch (70 points) topped the 17-year-old female ranks.
This year’s event was the last in Casterton with next year’s event in Portland.
