Western Speedway set for season finale

RACING action returns to Hamilton’s Western Speedway tomorrow with the Victorian Late Model Sedan Title and the Great Caravan Race offering entertainment for young and old.

A huge program of support racing includes Limited Sportsman, Production Sedans, Standard Saloons, Vintage Rods and Vintage Sedans.

This weekend the Victorian Late Model Sedan Championship will be decided, and although the field is slightly smaller than we expected, the quality of the field is second to none.

The nomination list includes the defending champion, N19 Todd Bayley along with V2 Peter Nicola, X4 David Robertson, T6 Brad Smith, V9 Wayne Belk, S10 Mat Crimmins, V12 Brock Edwards, V17 Will Lamb, V21 Chevy Edwards, V71 Domain Ramsay, and S110 Jason Robinson.

The Limited Sportsman have put up a good-sized field with Andrew Wilson, Bayley Wilson, Bowen Donkers, Craig Ansell, Dylan Anton, Dylan Seilly, Jenny Godfrey, Jock Baker, Katelyn Worthy, Rod Hetherington, Travis Matthews and Troy Curran all keen to get another run before the season ends.

Last weekend, Baker continued his winning way adding yet another Victorian title to his collection at the Bairnsdale track, while Donkers was second ahead of Curran in third.

On the Production Sedan scene, Benny Barker headed to Rockhampton last weekend to contest the Australian title, and although he performed well over the weekend, luck was against him

This weekend he is back home and faces strong opposition from Colby Hammond, Dehne Sparrow, Graham Gerlach, Heath Bunting, Heath Riley, Mark Riley, Ryan Queale and Steven Aldridge.

The Standard Saloon racing is almost an all-Portland affair, with Brent Clark, Chris Carvell, Darren Fitzgerald, Greg Hutchins, Nathan Hutchins, Nicole Vaughan, Rundell and Sam Rundell from Portland Club and Joell McInnes in C14.

The nomination list for the Vintage Sedan demonstration events includes Tom Grist, Wally Hucker, Philip Grellet, James Robinson, Tom Grist, Michael Grist, Austin Corcoran and Ray Hammond.

There isn’t a full list of the range of vehicles, but they range through from the ex-Golding Cortina, the ex-Cowland Super Sedan Falcon, and the ex-Hammond Corvette, right through the years.

The Vintage Rod events will see Rod Hetherington, John Chadwick, Phil Williams, Alan Howden, James Juri, Ron Schneider and Mark Cowan take to the clay.

The last event on the program, the caravan race has attracted a lot of interest with local lad, Ryan Arnel keen to get on to the track.

Others include Cody McCabe, Hayden McCabe, Mathew Domberg, Pete Leonard, “Stence”, “Billy”, Travis Mathews and Wayne Edwards.

Always a crowd favourite, the caravan race will be no place for grey nomads, with plenty of mayhem and madness as the vans hurtle around the track to the chequered flag.

More information and online ticketing are available from the Western Speedway website and tickets are also available to purchase at the gate.

Racing begins at 3pm, with the Public Gate opening at noon.
