Friendly clash awaits

THE Hamilton Kangaroos will be hoping to make it two wins on the trot when they travel to take on South Warrnambool in Hampden Football Netball League (HFNL) round six action today.

The Kangaroos are coming off a win against Terang-Mortlake last week, but the Roosters are firing and will go into the clash as heavy favourites at home.

Hamilton coach, Hamish Waldron said last week’s result would give the team confidence, but knew a win against the red and white would not be easy.

“They are playing some good footy and they will be tough to beat at home,” he said.

“Our style will hold up down there, we just have to play the top side and we don’t want to get stuck on the greyhound track side.

“You can get caught down there for a while otherwise.”

The Roos have brought in Angus Noske after strong form in the reserves in recent weeks, while Zach Burgess returns after missing last week.

Tall forward, Darcy Russell, was unable to recover for the game after getting a knock last week, while Ethan Knight was the other out.

Waldron said the absence of Russell meant others would need to fill the void.

“I have moved the magnets around, instead of the ruckman resting on the bench, they will rotate through the forward line for a rest,” he said.

“Hopefully we kick a bit straighter and put a bit of scoreboard pressure on them.”

Noske’s inclusion was also good reward for strong form in the reserves over a sustained period.

“He has worked hard to get his spot and hopefully he can work,” Waldron said.

With one of the league’s strongest squads, the Roosters have a deep midfield and Waldron will back his team head-to-head.

He said there were too many players to lock down on, focusing on his team’s efforts and workrate in hopes of nullifying the impact of the red and white engine room.

“They have picked up some pretty good players and they had some already,” he said.

“There are too many players to watch, they have three or four that need tagging, so we will just make sure we get up our match-ups right.”
