Darts season gets underway

DARTS started back last Wednesday night after 10 months off with a new format and plenty of old faces as well as some new ones.

It has also seen the inclusion of floating reserves to fill in on some nights when required.

The new format proved a hit with many and led to some great darts being thrown on the night during the three games played.

In the first game of the round, Gamers took on Shooters at the Cally with Gamers claiming a 7-2 win.

In the first doubles, Tate Snell got his first peg ever in competition on four, before Caitlin Litchfield responded with her first peg of 36.

Going into the singles, scores were level, but this is where Gamers’ match experience shone out with them winning the remaining singles.

Brendan Jackway’s singles was a highlight for the night, throwing his first 180 for the season and finishing with an average for the night of 19.27.

One of our juniors also managed his first singles win with a great peg of 59 in the final leg.

The second game of the night saw Chloe’s Crew losing narrowly to 3 Men & a Boy, 5-4.

The doubles went 3-1 in favour of 3 Men & a Boy, with pegs to Dave Milich on 10, Mark Hibberd 18 and Harley Milich on 12.

Jeremy Ring tried valiantly to keep Chloe’s Crew in the contest when he won his singles with pegs of 32 and 34.

It all proved too much though with singles wins to Dave Milich on 7 and 4 and Mark Hibberd on 16 and 8, helping seal the win for 3 Men & a Boy.

The final game for the week saw Hurricanes taking on Bushrangers at the Commercial Hotel in Hamilton.

Bushrangers’ experience proved too much for the Hurricanes, claiming a 7-2 win.

Hurricanes fought hard all night with Luke Walkenhorst starring for the home side finishing with three pegs and four tons for the night and an average of 17.47.

Bushrangers’ Mark Bunting had a night out, finishing with four pegs and a maximum 180 with an average of 19.27.

Bruce Shepherd also had a great night, finishing with the highest peg of round one, 116, with an 18-dart singles leg.
