IT was a dominant performance from St Mary’s, thumping the winless Tigers in their Hamilton Basketball Association Men’s Division 1 clash by 37 points on Wednesday night.
Jacob Hill was the standout for the victors, capitalising on his height to score time and time again.
The 18-year-old couldn’t be stopped, as he continued to use his assets to get in the paint and finish well, going on to score 37 points in what was one of the great individual games of the season.
Teammate, Deacon White, also inflicted some damage on the Tigers team, adding 23 points to the final score in the 84-47 win.
After a couple of quiet weeks, Tigers’ Angus Hayden-Simpson was back on the scorers list, dropping 16 points to top score for his side on a tough night.
Minders White d. Barber Boys
MINDERS White has recorded a huge win against top-placed Barber Boys by five points in a tight contest.
Josh Miller (15 points) and Tyler Staude (13 points) led the way for the winning side, as they both caught fire from beyond the arc, converting on three big shots each.
Miller has fast become one of the most prolific scorers in the top division and has a damaging three-point shooting ability, which is a prominent feature of his game.
Joel Le Roy delivered his usual consistent performance, scoring 11 points and was well assisted by Jakob Greaves (10 points).
Minders held the lead, 41-36, when the final buzzer sounded, which will no doubt boost confidence for the rest of the season.
St Mary’s Black d. Monivae Warriors
DESPITE a dominant individual performance from Monivae’s Lachie Urquhart, it was St Mary’s Black which prevailed to win the game, 39-28.
Urquhart scored 16 of his side’s 28 points, but it wasn’t enough to get the team over the line.
It was Archie Porter who led the way for the Saints with 11 points, getting some open looks from outside the three-point line and converting three shots.
Rhe Warriors needed more contributors across the court to narrow the gap and get their second win of the season.
St Mary’s Black edges closer to a finals spot, currently sitting fifth, but now is just two points away from Minders White in third.

Sportscene Minders d. Monivae Dolphins
SPORTSCENE Minders made it six wins in a row, defeated Monivae Dolphins, 52-29, on Tuesday night.
The three leading scorers on the court belonged to Minders, as Paige Kissel (15 points) and Tahlia Ross (10 points) continued their strong form, while Caitlin Urquhart dropped 14 points.
Maggie Doyle has been one of the most consistent performers in the Dolphins team this season, scoring another 10 points on Tuesday despite the 23-point loss.
Monivae sits fifth by percentage, but is only a couple wins away from cementing itself inside the top four, while Minders are sitting comfortably at the top of the table with a huge percentage of 191.10.
St Mary’s Black d. Minders Blue
IT was St Mary’s Black who jumped into the top four after recording a healthy win against bottom-placed Minders Blue, thanks to a big game from Saints’ Holly Rook, who dropped 17 points.
Minders battled hard to come away with its first win of the year through Amy Pepper, who has consistently led the offence for the side, but she couldn’t get the team over the line.
Rook had a breakout game and was the difference on the night, scoring 17 of her team’s 31 points, to get her team to its second win.
Eight points from Tara Gould played a great assisting role to Rook and helped the team move the ball well on the offensive charge.
Minders Blue will be hoping it can cause an upset win against St Mary’s next week, while Saints will look to make it three season wins against Monivae Dolphins.
Tigers d. St Mary’s
A STRONG team performance from Tigers was enough to claim an easy 20-point win against St Mary’s.
Across the court, Tigers shared the roles and responsibilities without relying on a particular player to do it all, offering different avenues of scoring.
Saints defenders found it tough going, as every player on the Tigers team managed to have an impact on the scoreboard, the top-scorer being Grace Cleaver with eight points.
Kate Pickford scored more than half her team’s final score, but without any other players helping at the offensive end, the game got away from St Mary’s with the final result reading 33-13.
There is not much splitting the two teams on the ladder who sit on 13 points apiece after the result, with Tigers in second place due to its higher percentage.
