THE Hamilton and District Eight-ball Pool Association hosted its grand final day at the weekend with Heywood and Coleraine collecting wins.

The A grade grand final saw a battle between Condah and Heywood, the two stand out teams all year.

These two teams played each other in the first week of the finals with Condah having a very close 9-8 scotch doubles win.

Heywood then won the second round of the finals to gain their grand final spot.

With both teams being so close all year, spectators were in for a good close grand finale, and the players did not disappoint.

The games started with both teams getting a feel for each other.

Heywood won the first two games, Condah then fought back to win the next two frames.

The teams then continued to trade wins, and at the halfway point, the scores were tied at 4-4.

Heywood then put its foot on the accelerator and showed us why the team went through the regular season undefeated, winning the next four games straight to give them a 8-4 lead moving into the final round of games.

Condah started mounting a comeback winning the next two frames, to take the score to 8-6.

The next game saw Heywood’s Peter Ryan take on Condah’s Daniel Blake, both team of the year members.

Unfortunately for Blake, this time around Ryan was too strong, taking the win and claiming the A grade title for Heywood, 9-6.

Ryan was best on table.

B grade

HOLEINONERS took on the Coleraine team in the B grade decider and the two teams also faced off in the first round of the finals, with the HoleinOners taking the win 9-3.

Coleraine then got into the grand final with a 9-0 win in the second round of the finals.

With these two rather convincing wins by the teams to get into the grand final, it set up an intriguing battle.

The teams from the outset were very evenly matched, trading win for win, 2-2, after the first set of games, then the score was 4-4 at the halfway mark and 6-6 with one round to play.

HoleInOners’ Merv Anton won the first game of the final set of frames, before Coleraine’s Graham Gull won the second game to tie the scores once again at 7-7.

Coleraine then strung two wins together with Darren Fitzgerald and EJ both winning respectively, giving Coleraine the B grade title, 9-7.

Fitzgerald was named best on table.

Singles results will be in Saturday’s Spec.
