BRONZE BRILLIANCE

ZOE Addinsall’s international debut at the 2022 UIPM Laser Run World Championships has delivered a podium finish, collecting a bronze medal at last weekend’s event.

The 14-year-old took to the world stage in Lisbon, Portugal, and was on of more than 700 competitors from 26 countries participating, finishing top three in the Under-17 relay event.

Addinsall said she didn’t expect to get a medal, but was happy to get on the podium.

“I was very shocked,” she said.

“I was a bit nervous but I was really happy.

“I cried happy tears at the end, because I was so proud of myself.”

It was the first time Addinsall competed alongside Coffs Harbour’s Max Clarke in a relay.

They competed in a 2x600m with the girls starting first, where Addinsall started impressively.

Addinsall had a great start leading into and out of the shoot, the individual winner from Great Britain took lead and the Aussies had to chase, as she set up a good position for Clarke to take over.

He was a bit nervous in his shooting, but managed to come back from sixth place to come home strong, as they claimed the bronze medal.

Addinsall also competed in the Under-17 Individual event, starting out strong in the run and coming out first in the shoot and holding first place the first 600m lap, before the gap reduced in the hot conditions, eventually finishing sixth.

Matilda Mason was also part of the Australian team, finishing equal 18th out of 62 competitors in her age group final, while also collecting a top 10 finish in the mixed relay.

Addinsall will now take some time to recover before she jets off to New Zealand for her next event next month.
