PORTLAND Croquet Club is well into their 2022-23 season with plenty of match play scheduled for the coming months.
After kicking off on September 7 the club has enjoyed a positive start to the season with strong numbers for regular and representative competition.
Based at the Portland Botanic Gardens, the club play Aussie, Golf and Ricochet croquet on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons kicking off at 1.30pm with anyone welcome to attend.
Club secretary Majella King said there has been plenty happening around the club across the past month and a half.
“Participation since competition started has been excellent,” she said.
“On Wednesday and Saturday afternoon, for Aussie, Golf and Ricochet there has been 12 to 20 players. Association is held on Tuesday and Saturday morning and they have about six to eight players come.”

The club is busy with players competing in tournaments across the coming weeks as well as participating in some coaching.

“Four people are travelling to Terang on November 9 for a Golf tournament,” King said.
“Five people are also going to Warrnambool on November 24 and 25 for Golf coaching. This is the last of three blocks.”
One of the club’s biggest tournaments takes place in the New Year with the Portland Croquet Club Association Tournament welcoming croquet players from across Victoria from January 9-11.
With a busy schedule for the club, King said they are always welcoming new players to the sport.
“New people are very welcome to join,” she said.
