IT was a very high-scoring round of Portland Basketball Association’s division one competition when teams took the floor on Wednesday night, with teams cracking 50, 60 and even 70-point final scores.
Women’s results
There was only one game in the women’s division, as Celtix Green was forced to forfeit its match against Shawnee.
In the game that was played, Tigersharks were too strong for Celtix Blue, coming away with a 55-50 win after a big second half.
Tyleah Barr was at her absolute best in this one, drilling five three-pointers on her way to 29 points, while Sienna Stone and Stella Rogers chipped in with 10 and eight points respectively.
After falling down by 13 points at halftime, Celtix Blue put together a second-half fightback, with Millie Jennings leading the way finishing with 16 points, while Zara Stock (14 points) and Brooke Morrissey (10 points) put in good performances.
Sadly, it was too little too late, as Tigersharks were able to hold on for the win.
Men’s results
Celtix put together a massive win over Mustangs in what could be seen as a statement win for the team, coming away winners 75-27.
Usual suspects Jackson Dunlop and Brad Clark combined for 45 points and were ably assisted by Will Hunter and Sam Hampshire with 14 apiece.
Mustangs kept pace in the first half via Sam Peck and Jeremy Morton (10 points) each, but an absurd 45-4 second half from Celtix put the game well beyond doubt.
A big second half comeback propelled Shawnee Blue past Tigersharks Gold in their match, with the final score a massive 70-66.
Gold put together an impressive first half despite playing with just four players, as Toby Jennings, Jack Walsh, Jack Burton and Beau Edwards all scored in the mid-to-high teens to help get their side to a seven-point lead by halftime.
Shawnee’s extra man proved critical in the second half, as they came over the top of their opposition, thanks in large part to 22 points from Aiden Rogers and 17 from Jed Lucas.
In the other late fixture, Shawnee Black came back from 16-5 down early in the first half to claim a 49-42 victory over Tigersharks Red.
Some hot shooting got Tigersharks out to a flier, with Errol Gracias’ three three-pointers paired with Mitch Turner’s 12 points and Rufus Punton’s 10.
Shawnee star Sam Peters imposed his will on the game in the second half, finishing with a game high 24 points in a scintillating display, assisted primarily by 10 points from Luke Schultz.
