Hamilton races transferred to Casterton

THE Hamilton Racing Club’s wretched luck with the weather has continued with next Tuesday’s meeting transferred to Casterton.

An early decision was made due to the heavy condition of the track, the club’s trials have also been moved to Casterton for Wednesday.

The extended winter blast has resulted in a number of meetings abandoned or transferred during the past few months.

Luckily for the club, last month’s cup meeting was salvaged in early October during what has been a frustrating time.

Casterton has been a workhorse for the district this year, allocated meetings together with transferred meetings totalling eight for 2022.

With improving weather over the weekend leading into Tuesday, the track which is currently in the high Heavy range could race at the low Slow level.

A total of 385 nominations have been entered for the eight programmed races.

Showing the bank up of horses looking to race, 199 of those nominations are for the four maiden races.

Fields have not been declared prior to print, but I have listed potential horses to follow below.

Bon’s Your Back, trained by Tom Dabernig, looked slightly disappointing here last meeting, but he should be given another chance on an improving track in either of the two Maiden races over 1200m or 1400m.

Mulga Lil was an emphatic winner here last meeting and should be hard to beat again if trainer, Paul Preusker, accepts to run in the BM58 Handicap over 2000m.

The Adam Chambers-trained Grassmere Jewel is building a nice record, having won two of her three starts, including a last start win at the track.

She has been nominated for three races over 1100, 1200m and 1400m, and will be hard to beat in whatever she contests.

One horse that can run well fresh is Sunburnt, trained by Bill Cerchi.

The five-year-old mare trialled up very well in recent weeks, and despite not winning often, can run a race over 1100m.

Locally, a quick look through the nominations sees Raging Monkey a last start winner at the track and Red Paree a smart placegetter on debut as horses to watch.

Hamilton trainers, James Bull and Darren Kolpin, put the polish on those two runners.
