The round of home side wins

IN a unique round of wins, 13 of 14 results went to the home sides.

As part of that, 31 of 37 team wins went to the home sides as well.

Winning sides scored 908 shots to losing sides 622.

Being poor at maths, 12,432 live bowls are delivered each week.

This round 12.3 per cent were counted as scoring.

In division one, a big contributor to the total was the Hamilton side playing Penshurst on A green.

Bill Satchell 22 d Ali Rentsch 16, Norm Pech 30 to Trev Landwehr 13, and Richard Martin 33 to David Cook 15: the total being 85-44.

It was the biggest margin of all games.

Then we come to totals of 71, the first being to Balmoral playing Portland and the visitors’ total there was 48.

Tom Simons lost to Peter Cottier, Pegleg 20 d Bob Bowden 12, Nev Trotman had the high score with 35 to Mick Jennings 11.

Memorial 71 defeated Heywood 38, as a result of Des Pitts 20 to Mick Swan 14, Gregg Hoggan 28 d Ricky Angelino 10, and Ken Evans 23 d John Angelino 14.

Ladder shuffles meant Memorial stayed put, Hamilton went up and Balmoral down, but one team loss made the difference.

Portland and Heywood swapped as above, Grangeburn and Penshurst were also part of the changes.

Ladder: Memorial 63, Hamilton 61, Balmoral 60, Portland 46, Heywood 45, Casterton 22, Grangeburn 17, and Penshurst with six points.

Division two

THE second highest score of all games and highest margin by a team was to Memorial and Gerry Watt with 33 to Anthony Bourke 6.

Peter Fasoli ran up 26 to Jean Schroeder 22, and to cap off the day, Leonie Buchannan scored 25 to Clifton Tonissen with another 22.

The scores lead to an 84-50 overall scoreboard.

Portland Gold, like Hamilton, played the other colour, an in this case Blue in the winner of the bragging rights game.

Gold is almost double the points on the ladder and added to the difference, winning on two rinks.

Tom Alexander promoted from Blue to Gold had a third win in a row, defeating Alan Palmer, 30-14.

Barry Huppatz 28 defeated Alan Litowschenko 13, and Daryl Alexander lost to Reg Alexander, 19-22.

The win maintains Gold’s top spot and to Hamilton Gold’s disappointment, increased the shots difference from 36 to 77.

As above, the second intra club game was between Hamilton Gold and Green, and for those unfamiliar with the colour meaning, when a club has two sides in a division they are identified by colour and what is known in rules as seniority where the best players are supposed to be selected into the best or most senior team; nothing to do with age.

Some of us wouldn’t get a game if it was on age.

So accordingly, both Gold sides are at the top of the ladder.

Anyway, it was a great game again between the colours.

Gold’s Maurice Jolly d Denis Gay, 25-24, Trevor Schultz was defeated by Max Spiller, 14-17, and Alan Crane defeated Ken Fort, 18-9.

Ladder: Portland Gold 64, Hamilton Gold 64, Memorial 50, Portland Blue 35, Macarthur 15 and Hamilton Green with 12.

Division three

THE merry go round continues, as one more game and two rounds will have been completed.

Grangeburn had a win-loss-win-loss record, and added another win to the list after defeating Coleraine at home.

Coleraine had a loss three wins and now another loss.

Phil Thomassen 26 d Alan McIntosh 5, John Colcott 17 lost to Steve Cooper 21, and Nettie Ryan coaxed 19 out of her side to Vern Spencer 15.

The other game was between Hamilton and Memorial and the visitors got off to a pretty good start, but consistency improved on a couple of rinks and the locals won by 15.

Jim Nichol 16 to David Garnier 22, Peter Clapham 24 d Meredith Fredericks 9, and Bill Edge d Imbi Tinkumsep, 23 to 17.

Hamilton 63 d Memorial 48 overall when all was said and done.

Adding to the day, as Hamilton had all sides at home, was a free sausage sizzle provided after play and almost all visitors remained at the club, it was a terrific atmosphere.

Ladder, Coleraine 48, Grangeburn 46, Hamilton 46, and Memorial 20.

Division four

RESULTS shuffled the middle order a bit, as you will see below the competition for spots is well on.

Dartmoor won last week by two and this week by three.

Hamilton Gold 45 d Green 37 - Norm Schwarz 26 d Heather McIntyre 21 and Miriam Tonissen 19 d Nev Blackmore 16.

Coleraine 44 d Heywood 28 - Robin Salamon 23 d Thelma Hoggan 12, Arthur Guy 21 d Rob Hamblin 16.
