Experience of a lifetime

PORTLANDER Kiran Sonti had the experience of a lifetime last week when he met Australian swimming icon Emma McKeon for a one-on-one training session in the pool.

Making the trip to Bendigo, Kiran had the opportunity to meet the Australian Dolphins swimming team during one of their training sessions ahead of the World Short Course Championships in Melbourne.

It was partly a case of luck of the draw for the nine-year-old when his name was drawn out of a group of approximately eleven thousand swimmers as part of Belgravia Leisure’s GOswim program.

The other part was consistent swimming, with Kiran required to complete eight consecutive weeks of swimming during the winter months, receiving a sticker each week to go in the draw to win.

It was an action-packed day for the young swimmer who was shown around Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre where the Dolphins were based, before enjoying a money-can’t-buy session with McKeon who went through different stroke techniques as well as providing some other tips and tricks in the water.

McKeon is a four-time world record holder, has won five Olympic gold medals and is one of Australia’s most successful swimmers and Olympians.
