IN one of the worst weather days for bowls seen even this year, several games had to be abandoned or not even started.
Thankfully every club, whether playing or not, scored some ladder points.
If half the games in a division get a result, then the ones that didn’t play share points.
If more than half are abandoned, then no results count.
In division one there were no ladder changes, even though Memorial and Grangeburn had to abandon play after heavy rain inundated the green.
I heard the trip home to Hamilton was a long one and a lot of fun.
Then believe it or not, Hamilton at home to Portland played a draw, so almost equally shared the points.
Having delivered 1008 live bowls for the day, the scores came out at 54 each and 10.7 per cent of those rolled up scored.
A heck of a lot of rolling and walking for nine points to Portland and seven to Hamilton.
Jenny Pole defeated Kerrie Alexander, 18-14, the result sheet said Elma Astbury lost to Elma Astbury, 19-21, but it was probably to Heather Burgess, and Heather McIntyre with 17 lost to Shirley Rogers 19.
I wonder who had the last bowl.
Balmoral was at home to Casterton. as the heavy rain never got that far north, and the home side kept the visitors to scores of 13, 12 and 11.
Trish Brody 21 to Teresa Sealey 13, Chick Trotman 29 to Nancy Sharam 12, and Nettie Tinning 26 to Berniece Sullivan 11.
Combined, the scored totalled 76-36 overall.
The ladder after 10 games is Hamilton 111, Portland 108, Memorial 107, Balmoral 77, Grangeburn 51, and Casterton 26.
Division two
PORTLAND had the bye and Penshurst playing Grangeburn had to abandon play after a few ends.
The two results changed the middle positions on the ladder, no effect at the top, despite two reasonably close results.
Macarthur was at home to Memorial, which finished four shots up at the end of the contest.
Bev Bourke defeated Pearl Kitt, 19-15, and Jean Schroeder lost to Leanne Evison, 19-23.
Beaut to see Leanne’s name back on the team sheet.
So that four-shot win was the difference in the 34-38 scorecard.
Hamilton jumped off the bottom rung and dropped Penshurst and Grangeburn down when the home side defeated third-placed Coleraine, 43-35.
Robyn Donovan defeated Lesley Beaton, 21-17, and Miriam Tonissen defeated Theresa Nolte, 22-18.
The ladder is Macarthur 76, Portland 74, Coleraine 70, Memorial 55, Hamilton 51, Penshurst 48, and Grangeburn 46.
Division three
THIS division made the 50 percent of games completed requirement, but only just.
Dartmoor and Grangeburn abandoned their game, as did Casterton and Macarthur.
With all the disruption, there were absolutely no positional changes to the ladder.
The high rink score of all games was 33 and this was by the team skipped by Myra Bourke of Portland against Memorial’s Pauline Breen, who managed nine.
Joan Cottier 16 was outscored by Trish Watt with 19, so the win was 46-25.
Heywood travelled to Hamilton and had a good day result wise.
Hamilton’s Doreen Edwards played Thelma Hoggan and was defeated, 28-8.
Glenda Porter had a close contest against Barb Moore, falling just short 21-24.
The ladder is now Macarthur 106, Dartmoor 91, Portland 89, Heywood 88, Memorial 67, Grangeburn 56, Casterton 52, and Hamilton 11.
This week concluded Midweek Pennant until round 11 on January 17.
