Addinsall takes out state champs

ZOE Addinsall continues to bring home success with her tetrathlon endeavours, awarded Junior Female Champion at the Pony Club Victoria Tetrathlon State Championships in Geelong and will now compete at nationals next year.

After winning the shooting, swimming, running and riding sections, it was a convincing win for the 15-year-old, who has just returned from a training camp at Coffs Harbour.

There was a lot of local talent from the Wannon Zone on display and all performed impressively in their respective sections.

Macarthur Pony Club had Nathan Clark (first in Novice Junior Male), Gwyneth Homer (third in Sub-Junior Female), Oliver Homer (third in Sub-Junior Male).

Hamilton Pony Club also had some strong representation through Charlie Hiscock (second in Sub-Junior Male), Finley Hiscock (sixth in Sub-Junior Male) and Matilda Mason (second in Junior Female).

Addinsall was happy with how the day went despite some very warm conditions making it tough for competitors.

“It was pretty good, I wasn’t really ready to compete yet but I kind of just thought I’d give it my best, it was really good being back competing,” she told The Spectator.

The Byaduk local, who now boards at school in Ballarat, was dominant across all of her events, winning the swim and recording a new personal best time, as well as completing a great ride on a very difficult course that troubled many of the riders.

“I hadn’t been training too much for the swim, I was kind of hoping that I could knock a few seconds off my time, so that was good,” she said.

“I was pretty happy that I was the only girl that got a clear round in the riding, it was pretty tough, but I got through it and was really proud of my horse at the end.”

Hamilton’s Matilda Mason also had an outstanding day, making up significant ground in the running event which was last for the day.

Coming into the final event, Mason was placed in sixth position but despite the scorching heat, she ran well to finish in second place behind Addinsall.

Addinsall is continuing to practice for nationals, which are set to go ahead later next year.

“(The next event for me) is the State Pentathlon which will be early next year,” she said.

“I’m also hoping to qualify for the World Championships of the Laser Run in Bath, England, we are doing some time trials at the moment, and they can see our times and stuff, so hopefully I get to do that.”
