YOUNG Portland cricketer Tighe Warburton finished up his journey with Western Waves’ under-16 representative team last week, with the team participating in a total of seven matches in the Youth Premier League across almost three weeks.
The Waves didn’t have a great deal of success, finishing with two wins and five losses from their matches.
Warburton had a few very solid performances over the journey, highlighted by his efforts in round five where he claimed 2-8 from three overs to help his side to a nail-biting three-run win over the Wizards.
His highlight with the bat was a knock of 18 as a part of a partnership of 52 in the Waves’ thumping 142-run win over the Suns in round two.
But the primary focus of the trip wasn’t on how many runs he could amass or how many wickets he could take, but rather on the experience and opportunity to come up against some of the best young cricketers country Victoria has to offer.
In addition, the coaching and development which Warburton has been given the opportunity to access will no doubt prove invaluable as he continues his journey as an up-and-coming young cricketer.
