THE Greater South West Junior Football League (GSWJFL) hosted its annual general meeting last month in Coleraine, with minimal changes made to the structure of the competition.
League president, Jason Sealey said all vacant positions had been filled by their previous holders, and they’re still waiting to finalise their fixture for the 2023 season.
“The Hampden league hasn’t released their fixture for 2023 yet, when that happens, we’ll be able to finalise ours,” Sealey said.
“At this stage it’s still in the draft stage…hopefully we’re not too far off being able to finish it.”
The one major point which was discussed at the meeting was the introduction of mandatory helmets for junior players across all age brackets, where previously they were only mandatory at under-11s level, however this motion was eventually defeated.
“We’re going to keep it as it was, under-11s helmets will continue to be mandatory, but for under-14s and 17s
they’ll remain recommended but not mandatory,” Sealey said.
He added that the league would like to thank Leighann Jackson, who this season decide to step down from her role as southern representative, a position she shared with Lee Kelly on the league executive.
“We would like to thank Leighann for many years of dedicated service to the league, and we wish her well for her future endeavours,” Sealey said.
Kelly will continue in the role in a solo capacity going forward.
