Summer racing set for Hamilton meet

THOROUGHBRED racing returns to Hamilton on Tuesday, the club’s final summer meeting before track renovations take place.

Big nominations of 316 entries should see capacity numbers when fields are released Friday afternoon.

Following the meeting, the club will have trials on Wednesday before allowing access to those who wish to gallop horses on Thursday morning.

Renovations will then take place prior to the next two meetings in April and May where jump’s racing will return.

Local trainers with potential runners include Bec Winnell, Trudy Cottier and Peter Young.

Winnell has nominated Final Atom, who was placed at the track in December.

Since then, he was unplaced at Geelong, but his liking for the track gives him an each way chance.

Cottier has Dollar Bucks and Delightful Scoop nominated, the former improving last start at Warrnambool, while the latter who is a two-time winner on the track needs to improve from his last performance at Warrnambool.

Miss Cavendish has found form in her last two runs at Mount Gambier.

The veteran mare, trained by Peter Young, who is a winner on the track, won at the Mount in December before following up with a nice second at the same track earlier this month.

Big stables dominate the nominations, including Symon Wilde, who has 28 entries across most races.

Wilde rarely goes home without a winner when he produces horses at Hamilton and if he accepts with five-year-old mare, Just A Rebel, that trend should continue.

Three career starts for three runner-up cheques has left odds-on punters lamenting at her last two starts, but with even luck that should change on Tuesday.

Fresh from a double at Penola last Wednesday, Tom Dabernig has also shown his support for the meeting with the nomination of two last start winners.

Katering and Soho Queen both look to have nice potential and should figure prominently if they run.

Good punting.
