IT was a day to remember for Tarrington’s Matthew Pickett, claiming a hat-trick and hitting a half century, as his team fell just short against Byaduk at Christie Oval in Hamilton and District Cricket Association D grade action on Saturday.
The Ducks batted first after losing the toss and an unbeaten half century from Paul Donoghue helped the home team to 6-193 from 40 overs.
Pickett finished with 3-22 from his five overs.
The visitors were looking like chasing down the tally after Pickett’s 51 and Steve Hadden’s 82-not-out, but late wickets, including a mankad dismissal to Wes Christie, saw Tarrington all out for 190 with seven balls remaining in the innings.
College d St Andrew’s
IT was a top two clash at PP3 with College claiming a comfortable 89-run victory in the end.
The Drews won the toss and bowled first, getting the key wicket of Martin Clark on the second ball of the game, but Dave Hintum anchored the innings through the middle overs with 37, while a 53-run seventh wicket partnership between Will Bourke and Tom Templeton helped College to 6-199.
Early wickets fell during the home team’s run chase with Craig Shipcott’s unbeaten 43 the only resistance against the Eagles, eventually bowled out for 110.
Hintum was the standout bowler with 5-9.
Coleraine d Grampians
IT was the highest D grade score of the year which set Coleraine’s win up, scoring 5-351 at Dunkeld Hardwicket against Grampians.
The Maroons batted first after losing the toss and Will Jackson’s 106-retired and 82-not-out from Karl Dwyer were the key contributors.
Mark Lazzari was the only multiple wicket-taker with two.
A 73-run opening partnership between Ken Bird and Lazzari looked positive, but only Myles Alderman (29) and Mick Alderman (54-not-out) were able to offer resistance with the Pumas all out for 177 inside 36 overs.
Dwyer topped the wickets with three for the visitors.
Hamilton d Pigeon Ponds
PIGEON Ponds’ tough season continued on Saturday, travelling to Haymes Paints Oval and being well-beaten by the home side.
The Blues won the toss and bowled first, with Andrew Colgan (21) the only batsman to reach double figures, as the visitors were bowled out for 43 inside 22 overs.
The home team’s run chase was comfortable, eventually declaring at 5-186 from 25 overs.
Ethan Cook (55), Nick O’Brien (43-not-out) and Ben Starkie (30) all found the boundary at will to claim the big win.
Tahara d Tarrington Tigers
THE Blue Caps made light work of the Tigers, as the yellow and black were sent in to bat first and restricted to 6-104 from 40 overs.
Rohan Tonissen’s 27-retired was the top score, while the wickets were shared evenly along with two run outs.
Tahara blasted its way to 2-114 inside 26 overs off the back of Tyler Gleeson’s 38-retired and Harry Goodman’s 57-retired.
Hamilton North dw Macarthur
THE match was abandoned and points were shared.
