HOW do you organise a major club championship (men's pairs) when the temperature is predicted to reach 40 degrees?

Easy. Simply bring the starting time forward to 7.45am and play in perfect conditions with most teams finished their three games by 2pm.

Five section winners emerged to contest the finials on Sunday.

The teams of Bill Satchell/Trevor Schultz and Barry Dowling/Peter Moller met in an elimination final, finishing in a draw and forcing a sudden death one end play off which the Dowling/Moller combination won in a thriller.

The first semi-final between Richard Martin/Peter Graham and Bill Edge/Jim Brody was a win for the Martin/Graham team.

The second semi-final was a close win for Dowling and Moller over the surprise packets of the event, Duncan McRae (lethal leftie) and Mick McCartney.

In the final, Martin and Graham were never headed and won well over a courageous Peter Moller and Barry Dowling.

Martin is now the reigning singles and pairs championship and represents the club on Sunday in the champion of champions.

Pet Graham is now no longer a rising star but an established champion.

Their names now go on the honour board for posterity.

Social bowls on Thursday was another great entry with the uncanny Alan Crane, Tony Jackson and Gerard Lucas the only three-game winner.

Peter Clapham, Peter Graham and Rob Henstridge also has great day.

Pennant resumed this week with the division one midweek team travelling to Portland RSL and the Division one Saturday team meeting Penshurst at home.

Try Bowls gets underway next Wednesday at 6pm with four weeks of fun and games for beginners.

Contact Jack Waldron or Richard Martin to enrol.
