IT was a hard night at the office for all at Hamilton’s Western Speedway last Saturday, but in spite of the heat, 41 street stock drivers turned on the action.
South Australian driver, Anthony Beare, added yet another win to his long list of achievements.
Beare won all three of his heats, with Bryan Brown, Morris Ahearn, Troy Hose, Mick Dann, Ricky Thockmorton, Steve Watts, and Jamie Crutchley each winning a heat, while Aaron Tyler took the win in the other two events.
Local driver, Troy Hose, scored a heat win and a third placing.
The B Main was hotly contested with Keith Moore, Scott Secombe, and Wade Felltaking the first three placings, and then it was time for the big dance.
It was 15 laps one way, then reverse the direction and do it all again.
Beare led from start to finish, and although Stevie Gartner was set to challenge several times, he was unable to get the run.
It was the invincible Beare who took the win, with Gartner in second spot, third went to Mick Dann with Morris Ahearn and Steve Watts rounded out the top five.
The thundering monoliths, the V8 Trucks also provided plenty of excitement and gained plenty of fans, as they raced three wide into the corners and powered down the straights in their events, which saw Luke James dominate with two heat wins, with the other heat going to Tim Driller.
James also powered the HO57 to the flag in the final, ahead of Jarryd Carman and Fletcher Mills.
Demonstrations from the Vintage sedans provided a glimpse into the past again, as early model Holdens, Falcons, and the like, strutted their stuff in front of an appreciative crowd.
The heat of the day was an issue on several fronts, and the Hamilton Speedway Club thanks the volunteers who braved the heat to carry out their duties at the track, and all who contributed to the night’s racing, the MJS Street Stock Series organisers and sponsors, the drivers and crews from the various classes, and last but not least, the fans who supported the event.
With such a good field of cars for this event, the club is now looking toward the running of the 2023 Victorian Street Stock Championship at Hamilton on April 22 and 23 and is expecting to see an even bigger field on that weekend.
Meanwhile the next meeting at Hamilton is on February 18 and has the SRA Sprintcar Series headlining the program with supports from Limited Sportsman and VSC Sports Sedans.
