Pumas look to prey on Eagles

AFTER College posted a score of 210 last week in the Hamilton and District Cricket Association (HDCA) A grade competition, Grampians will be looking to bat the 75 overs and hope the score takes care of itself at Dunkeld Turf this afternoon.

Hamish Bailey was the only batsman to get completely settled, hitting 64, while Stefan Burnell ripped through the order taking four wickets for the home side.

With a required run rate of 2.8, the Pumas batsman will look to place lots of value on their wickets and dig in to bat time and see their side home to its seventh win of the season, while the Eagles want to push closer to the top two.

In just three games this season, Tom Polkinghorne has scored big knocks of 71 and 70 and he could be required to see his side over the line.

Zach Burgess and Carl Joyce have also shown that the side performs well when they cash in with the bat and the pair will look to do similar today, while Henry Bensch will look to take a few early scalps for the Eagles.

St Andrew’s v Macarthur

MACARTHUR sits in a good position after posting 272 against the St Andrew’s bowlers after Ollie Wortley scored a ton to set his side up at Clem Young Oval.

The Demons sit below the Drews on the ladder, and this will be an important game to win if they can perform well with the ball.

Adam Fry, Michael Brilley and Kyle Smitten will need to stand up with the ball if the visitors are to get the result.

However, on the flip side, apart from Wortley’s 118, the next highest score for the visitors was just 32, meaning it only takes one big knock for the Drews’ run chase to become much easier.

The inclusions of Steve Cameron and Kane Taylor in comparison to the round 10 side have bolstered the batting line-up.

In addition to the good form that Brendan Huf and James Guthrig have had recently with the blade in hand, the home team will be backing itself in to claim its third win of the year and push closer to the top four.

Hamilton v Pigeon Ponds

HAMILTON will have to chase down 231 if it is to record a win in its clash against Pigeon Ponds, which batted well as Simon Close (95) led the way at Dahl Turf last week.

The Blues are winless, and this is largely due to the fact that they haven’t had any main run scorers or wicket takers apart from a couple players in their side, showing they need more contributors if they are to win some games.

With the bat, it has been a one-man show with Simon Sharrock scoring 203 runs, the next highest players are Brenton Callaby (101 runs) and Robbie Cook (53 runs) - both Tobi and Hamish Cook have scored just 43 runs between them in A grade this season.

Hamilton needs 232 to runs to win today and the only question is, who will score them? - the team’s highest score this year is 184 which came in its two-day game back in round eight.

Jack Beaton has been damaging this year with the new ball taking 14 wickets for Pigeon Ponds, while Close will likely make it hard for the home side with the ball also.
